About Me
Welcome to The London Angler - I'm just getting back into angling after over two decades of managing the odd fishing trip or two every year. And having recently got really into Cricket that's most of my summer weekends taken up. However cricket season is over so let's get some fishing trips in!
As a 14 year old I used eat, sleep and dream fishing and even managed to enter a few competitions. I distinctly remember my first on the river Swale up in North Yorkshire, where 45 out of the 50 anglers blanked and the winner caught a pike.. Now that I'm nearly pushing forty I'm apparently older and wiser, yet I still find myself casting into trees and other obstructions. I'm sure I was better than this as a kid.......!
So what's this about? Through this blog I intend to share my stories, issues and successes (hopefully) that come with being an Angler who lives in Zone 1 Central London.
I think one of the many reasons why I stopped fishing as frequently, aside from girls and clubbing, was it was difficult finding tackle shops near to where I lived, places to fish that were near to public transport and then all the hassles getting to and from the fishing holes carrying all my stuff. And that was without having to make a trip via the tackle shop to get bait. Occasionally I would visit the bait shop the day before but my step-mum hated me having maggots in the fridge.
Never mind the strange looks you often got on the buses, tubes and trains. Especially your way home when your soaking wet, muddy and stinky! usually got me a seat though!
However now as I drive I think and hope angling will be easier and more accessible for me. Although I do intend on visiting some of the old places I used to fish when taking public transport.
